A Memorable First Experience
Think back to a day in your life when you experienced something for the very first time. This should be a moment that made a strong emotional impact—whether it made you feel joy, fear, anger, sadness, excitement, or wonder. Choose one meaningful moment to recount in detail.
Some ideas include:
- Your first day at a new school
- The first time you played a sport or joined a team
- The first time you met a family member (e.g., a baby sibling, a relative from overseas)
- The first time you made a best friend
- A new experience that made you nervous, excited, or unsure
- Any other significant "first time" moment in your life
Write a recount of that special day. Tell the story through your own eyes—what you saw, felt, thought, and experienced.
Your Recount Must Include:
- Chronological Order: Tell the events in the order they happened—from before the moment, during the experience, and what happened after.
- First-Person Perspective: Use "I", "me", and "my" to describe your personal experience.
- Detailed Descriptions: Bring your writing to life by describing the setting, the people involved, what you saw, heard, and felt.
- Emotions and Feelings: Show how you felt using expressive language. Think beyond just "happy" or "sad"—use words like thrilled, nervous, embarrassed, amazed, overwhelmed, etc.
- Variety of Sentences: Use both short, powerful sentences and longer, complex ones to create rhythm and emphasis.
- Clear Paragraphs: Organise your recount into paragraphs (e.g., introduction, build-up, main event, reflection or conclusion).
