PERSUASIVE WRITING:

There has been an increase in students bringing mobile phones, tablets and iPads to school. Many students are sitting during recess and lunch playing video games and using social media. Also in class, many students are texting and playing games instead of listening to the teacher and doing classwork. It has become a big concern because students are not learning, being active or interacting with each other.

TASK: You must write a letter to the principal to persuade him/her to ban mobile phones, tablets and iPads in primary school. Include at least three strong arguments with reasons and supporting evidence.

Some arguments you might include are:
● The devices disturb the children’s learning and distracts other students
● It encourages the children to sit and play video games rather than play outside and get exercise and interact with other students.
● Younger children are becoming more exposed to social media and inappropriate online behaviour and games
● There are health risks with constantly using devices; vision problems, hearing loss, neck strain, give a headache and unhealthy exposure to radiation from these mobile devices.

You must explain what the problems are with bringing phones and tablets to school. Perhaps also provide a remedy (etc. providing students with specific time to go on computers during class time instead of bringing devices from home). You must write using paragraphs with quality descriptive language. Take care with spelling, grammar and punctuation.
